INVITATION SUNDAY!

Don't forget this Sunday, April 26th, is Invitation Sunday!  Bring a friend to church with you so they can learn more about our beliefs and hear the message of the restored Gospel.

Our love for the Lord and appreciation for the Restoration of the gospel are all the motivation we need to share what gives us much joy and happiness.
The Lord loves all of His children. He desires that all have the fulness of His truth and the abundance of His blessings. He knows when they are ready, and He wants us to hear and heed His directions on sharing His gospel. When we do so, those who are prepared will respond to the message of Him who said, “My sheep hear my voice … and they follow me” (John 10:27).

Family Home Storage

Family Home Storage

First Presidency

"Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing” (see D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we can care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others.

"We encourage members world-wide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings.

"We ask that you be wise as you store food and water and build your savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage all at once. With careful planning, you can, over time, establish a home storage supply and a financial reserve."
—The First Presidency, All Is Safely Gathered In: Family Home Storage, Feb. 2007, 1

Basic Food Storage Ideas

By Janet Towne

Build a small supply of food that is part of your normal daily diet.  One way to do this is to purchase a few items each week to build a one week supply of food, then you can gradually increase your supply until it is sufficient for three months.

Basic Food Storage Items
You might want to consider the following basic items for storage.  These amounts are enough to sustain an average woman for one year.  A man would need more, a child would need less.

Grains (rice, wheat or other cereal)                    300 lbs
Powdered milk                                                        100 lbs
Sugar or Honey                                                        30 lbs
Salt                                                                             5 lbs
Water                                                                         14 gallons

*These items provide a diet that supplies approximately 2,300 calories per day.  The amount recommended for an average 25 year old woman.

The following is a delicious salad and a way to use your wheat.

A Meal in One Salad
3 hard boiled eggs cut up
1 sweet pickle, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 large carrot, grated
1/4 green pepper, chopped
1/4 onion chopped
6 radishes (optional)
1 cup mayo
1 can tuna, chicken, or ham
2 cups cooked whole wheat
mix all together and chill
*serves 8

To cook the whole wheat:
1 cup whole kernel wheat
2 cups water
1/2 tsp. salt
put in crock pot and cook overnight on the lowest setting

Next vacation will probably be to a different Hawaiian island, but we also want to go to Europe before Kaylee goes to college (fingers crossed)!

If you could pick a family theme song, what would it be?
"Down By The Bay" is an old time family favorite because we used to sing it all the time in the car and see who could come up with the craziest animal doing what!

But, by title, it's got to be "We're All In This Together" (from High School Musical) or "The Best is Yet To Be" (Frank Sinatra).

What is a family tradition that you have?
We just started a great tradition this year that we agreed we would do every year. We packed a bunch of lunches and filled some backpacks with gloves, hats, snacks etc. and took them to San Francisco and passed them out to the people on the streets. It was really emotional and fulfilling for our whole family.

What is your family's favorite scripture?
We are still searching for our favorite, we are so new to the scriptures. But if I had to pick one for us it would be:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith." (Galations 5:22)

What helps to keep your family strong and unified?
Dinner together as a family almost every night!
